For the first time since its below-par run at the 50-over Women’s World Cup, the Indian women’s cricket team will hit the field and square off against Sri Lanka in the opening T20I of the three-match series in Dambulla today (June 23). The series opener will be played from 2:00 PM IST.

Harmanpreet Kaur will continue to lead the side and will be assisted by Smriti Mandhana. Ramesh Powar will continue as the head coach. The series will mark Jemmiah Rodrigues’ comeback to international cricket. The youngster hasn’t played for Team India since October 2021.

“Jemimah is someone [who is very] experienced. I know she was not there during the World Cup 2022, but she is someone who is part of T20Is. She is keen to grab whatever opportunity comes her way of lei, and we would like to provide all the players time to prepare for the Commonwealth Games, 2022, “captain Harmanpreet said on the eve of the opening T20I.

After 3 T20Is on June 23, 25 and 27, the teams are also scheduled to square off in 3 ODIs to be played on July 1, 4 and 7. The ODIs will be played in Pallekelle.
