Team Håtsa suffers upsets in volleyball cup | Sports

The boys and girls of the Håtsa volleyball team each had the opportunity to secure a birth one the fourth day of the 2nd Annual Tagaytay Founders Volleyball Cup in Tagaytay, Philippines.

Both teams suffered upsets when the Håtsa ladies dropped a three-set thriller to Bunggo 22-25, 25-19, 25-19 while the boys fell to Indang 25-19, 25-17, according to a news release.

Lady Håtsa’s Gabrielle Depriest and Tasi Naputi led the way with 19 combined kills. Teammates Halie Sanchez and Naiyah Taimanglo contributed with 14 assists and five service aces respectively.

“Our girls did well and got off to a great start,” said coach Mike Nauta in the release. “We allowed many errors to take over and change the tone of our game in the second and third set. Nevertheless, I’m proud of these girls and tomorrow we fight for third.”

The boys divisions’ John Paul Taimanglo and Dylan Millon combined for nine kills in the game. Setter Ray Caseres recorded seven assists in the effort.

“The boys are playing well and getting tons of experience,” said Nauta. “For a lot of them, it’s a new experience on a bigger stage and things can only get better as we move along.”

Both teams played Friday for third place. Results were not available as of press time.
