The Rome Free Academy boys tennis team got its first win of the season Thursday when it defeated Central Valley Academy 5-0 on the road in the Tri-Valley League.
RFA won the two contested matches and took forfeits in three others.
RFA won first and second singles. Philip Pociecha and Gavin Civitelli won those matches, respectively.
RFA is now 1-2 and hosts Whitesboro at 3:30 pm Monday in the league.
CVA, 0-3, hosts Whitesboro at 3:30 pm Friday in the league.
Poland wins high-scoring game in walk off fashion
The Poland softball team trailed by two headed into the bottom of the seventh but rallied for a 14-11 walk off win at home over Oriskany Wednesday in the Center State Conference.
The teams piled on the offense throughout the game. Oriskany led 3-2 after an inning and 6-4 after three.
Juliette Tagliaferi took the pitching loss for Oriskany. She went 4 2/3 innings, struck out eight, gave up three hits and walked two.
Tagliaferri was 2-for-4 at the plate and Lani Roberts was 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs.
Shelby Hagues was the winning pitcher, going the distance in the circle. She allowed eight hits and walked five while striking out five. Madison Haver was 2-for-2 for Poland at the plate.
Oriskany played a league game Thursday at Morrisville-Eaton. Results were not available at press time.
Spartans sweep Camden at the net
The New Hartford boys tennis team defeated visiting Camden 5-0 in the TVL Thursday.
Evan Lyga and David Berg each won in singles and the Spartans took a forfeit win as well.
The New Hartford doubles pair of Kenneth Kowalczyk and Deen Kaakour also won. The team took a forfeit in doubles as well.
New Harford, 5-0 and 2-0 in the league, hosts Vernon-Verona-Sherrill at 3:30 pm Tuesday in the league.
Camden is 0-3 and hosts VVS in the league at 5 pm Friday.
Red Devils shut out Warrors
The Vernon-Verona-Sherrill boys tennis team got a 5-0 win over visiting Whitesboro in the TVL Thursday.
Nolan Robinson, Tyler Kinne and Lincoln Pelc all won singles matches for VVS.
The Red Devils also won the doubles matches, with pairs of Jack Mitchell and Isac Rebres and Tristan Wood and Cole Maguire.
VVS is now 3-1 and 1-0 in the league. The team plays a road TVL match at 5 pm Friday against Camden.
Whitesboro, 1-3, 0-1 in the TVL, travels for a TVL match against Central Valley Academy at 3:30 pm Friday.
Oneida gets close win in tennis
The Oneida boys tennis team won the three singles matches while Utica Proctor won the two doubles matches in Oneida’s 3-2 home TVL win Thursday.
Seth O’Connell, Spencer Ingmire and Ryan Lusher each won their singles matches for Oneida.
The Raiders won the two doubles matches with pairs of Emin Skiljan and Maksim Morgan and then Andrew Solete and Khang Lai.
Oneida, 4-1, hosts CVA for a pair of matches Friday starting at 3:30 pm in the league.
Proctor, 2-2, hosts CVA at 3:30 pm Wednesday in the league.
Clinton defends home court
The Clinton boys tennis team won 4-1 at home over Canastota Wednesday in Center State Conference play.
Jason River and Connor Cook won singles matches for Clinton.
The Warriors’ doubles pairs of Izzy Marcus and Samuel Butcher and Dakota Fedor and Cooper Siddon also won.
Bryson DeMott won in singles for Canastota.
Clinton improves to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the league. The Warriors hosted Morrisville-Eaton Thursday in the league. Results were not available at press time.

HP wins all five in tennis victory
The Holland Patent boys tennis team won all five matches at home against Little Falls in the Center State Wednesday.
Glen Gaige, Jeffrey Dewar and Carter Williams won in singles for the Golden Knights.
The winning duos in doubles were William Zimmerman and Christopher Kelly and Sawyer Locke and Matthew DePerno.
HP is now 4-1, 3-0 in the league. The Knights visited Lowville in non-league play Thursday. Results were not available at press time.
RFA girls golfers wins first TVL match
The Rome Free Academy girls golf team won 214 to 296 over visiting Utica Proctor in the Tri-Vally League Wednesday at Rome Country Club.
Evie Denton was the medalist for Rome with a 46.
Proctor’s top score was the 58 fired by Olivia Matrulli.
RFA, 2-0 and 1-0 in the TVL, hosts Central Valley Academy in league play at 3:30 pm Friday.
Proctor hosts Vernon-Verona-Sherrill at 3:30 pm Friday at Eagles Golf Course in league play.
Whitesboro boys golfers get by RFA
The Whitesboro boys golf team got a 229 to 280 win on the road against RFA at Rome Country Club in the TVL Wednesday.
Mike Stilwell was the Warriors’ medalist with a 41.
RFA’s best score was a 48 by Michael Occhipinti.
Whitesboro improves to 3-0 and hosts Utica Notre Dame at 3:30 pm Monday at Hidden Valley Golf Course in the TVL.

Oriskany’s Deriso helps golf team stay unbeaten
The Oriskany boys golf team improved to 3-0 this season with a 182 to 248 win at home at Crestwood Golf Club over Westmoreland Wednesday in the Center State.
Nick Deriso led Oriskany with a 42.
Westmoreland’s medliast was Jeremy Riggles, who shot at 60.
Oriskany, 3-0 and 2-0 in the league, hosts Clinton at 3:30 pm Friday in the league.

Adirondack is best among three in boys golf
The host Adirondack boys golf team had the best score in a match where West Canada Valley was second and Poland was third Thursday at Woodgate Pines.
The Wildcats had the top score of 200. West Canada’s score was 207 and Poland carded a team score of 259.
Sam Andrews led Adirondack with a 41.
West Canada Valley’s medalist was Will Smith with a 47.
For Poland, Trent Hobin’s 61 was a team-best.

Clinton golfers defeat New York Mills
The Clinton boys golf team defeated New York Mills181 to 232 on the road at Twin Ponds Golf Course in Center State league play Wednesday.
Caden Engle was Clinton’s medalist with a 42.
For New York Mills, Jaydon Dietz led scorers with a 36.
Clinton travels to Crestwood Golf Club to play league foe Oriskany at 3:30 pm Friday.
New York Mills will play against Holland Patent at 3:30 pm Friday at Camroden Golf Course in the league.
