Patriot League Announces Women’s Tennis Postseason Accolades (5.9.22)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Army West Point, Boston University and Navy all earned the 2022 Patriot League Women’s Tennis Major Awards as the All-Patriot League teams and major awards were announced on Monday morning by the League office.

BU sophomore Victoria Carlsten was named this year’s Patriot League Women’s Tennis Player of the Year, while teammates Erica Di Battista and Emily Kim earned doubles team of the year.
Navy freshman Emily Tannenbaum received rookie of the year, while Army West Point head coach Paul Peck rounded out the major awards as coach of the year.

Seven out of nine League teams are represented on the two All-League teams. Army West Point and Boston University both had three student-athletes on the teams, followed by Navy with two. Bucknell, Lafayette, Lehigh, and Loyola Maryland rounded out the all-League teams with one student-athlete apiece.

The Major Awards and All-League teams were voted on by the nine Patriot League head coaches who could not vote for their student-athletes or themselves.

Patriot League Women’s Tennis Player of the Year
Victoria Carlsten, Boston University, So., Malmo, Sweden / Korrespondensgymnasiet
* Carlsten finished the season 12-7 in dual matches with a 9-3 record at No. 1 singles.
* She posted a perfect 6-0 record with straight-set singles victories against Patriot League opponents in the top slot.
* The sophomore is a two-time first team All-Patriot League member.

Patriot League Women’s Tennis Rookie of the Year
Emily Tannenbaum, Navy, Fr., Commack, NY / Commack
* Tannenbaum recorded at 24-11 record in singles this season for the Midshipmen. She also went 23-4 in doubles action.
* The freshman’s 24 wins finished tied for the fifth-most wins in a single season in team history.
* Her 47 combined wins in singles and doubles play ranks second in combined victories in a single season in program history.

Patriot League Women’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Year
Erica Di Battista / Emily Kim, Boston University
* Di Battista and Kim notched a 10-6 overall doubles record playing at No. 1 doubles.
* The duo ended the season 4-1 in Patriot League play on court one, along with a 2-0 record in the conference tournament.
* They recorded No. 1 doubles wins over UConn, Brown and Rhode Island this season.

Patriot League Women’s Tennis Coach of the Year
Paul Peck, Army West Point
* Peck guided the Black Knights to a 25-10 overall record and a 5-2 mark in Patriot League action.
* He directed the team to their second Patriot League title since 2019 with a 4-1 win over top-seeded Boston in the championship match.
* Peck has now won 16 Patriot League Coach of the Year honors.
