Panley hopes to lead Columbus Academy back to state

Playing third singles behind Jack Madison and Arie Tuckerman most of last season, senior Ryan Panley knew he eventually would get a chance to play on the first-singles court for the Columbus Academy boys tennis team.

With the loss of Madison and Tuckerman to graduation, that time is now for Panley.

“I’m definitely ready for that challenge,” said Panley, who has taken over the No. 1 spot for the Vikings. “I’m ready to take on any guy that comes my way and I’m ready to give him a fight.”

Led by Panley, the Vikings are looking to qualify for their second consecutive Ohio Tennis Coaches Association state tournament in Division II and repeat as MSL-Ohio Division champions.

Panley earned a win in singles to help Academy beat Lexington 3-1 in the third-place match of the state team tournament a year ago. He also recorded the Vikings’ lone victory in a 3-1 semifinal loss to Pepper Pike Orange.
