Officers identified in the July 30 shooting of a Cedar Rapids driver

The driver, Brandon Lee Nelson, is still receiving treatment at UIHC

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation late Friday identified the two officers involved in the July 30 early morning shooting of a 23-year-old Cedar Rapids man.

Brandon Lee Nelson’s vehicle was pulled over by Cedar Rapids Police Department Officers Matthew Jenatscheck and Blair Klostermann at approximately 4 am for what the officers reported as erratic driving, the DCI said.

DCI earlier had reported gunfire then was exchanged at the scene between Nelson and two officers.

Jenatscheck is a 26-year law enforcement veteran who has been with the police department for a year, DCI said in a news release. Klostermann is a three-year veteran with the department.

DCI, a division of the Iowa Department of Public Safety, said it interviewed the two officers on Thursday.

“Both officers have cooperated with the investigation and, per policy, remain on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation,” the DCI’s statement said.

Nelson continues to receive treatment at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, the DCI said.
