Jeff Hendrick enjoying a ‘renaissance’ for club and country away from Newcastle

Former Republic of Ireland international Damien Delaney has claimed that Newcastle United loanee Jeff Hendrick is going through something of a renaissance for both club and country. He is currently at Queens Park Rangers for the rest of the season where he is hoping to help them back into the Premier League.

The Magpies midfielder claimed that he was disappointed with the game time he had received this season and wanted to enjoy his football again. His Deadline Day departure from the club went largely under the radar due to the influx of incomings on Tyneside on the final day of the transfer window.

Since arriving at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium, Hendrick has played all-but one of QPR’s matches, a spell which Delaney has been full of praise for. The ex-Crystal Palace defender told Off The Ball: “I think Jeff Hendrick is in the middle of a renaissance. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Jeff play as well with the ball, even when he was playing at his peak at Burnley.

The story behind why Newcastle’s ‘David Alaba’ prospect suffered ‘anonymous’ loan

It is a little more than a year since Newcastle United saw off competition to complete the signing of England youth international Matty Bondswell. The highly-rated full-back arrived in March 2021 following the termination of his contract with German top-flight outfit RB Leipzig.

Bondswell, a former Nottingham Forest prospect, was compared to former Bayern Munich defender David Alaba in a Bundesliga profile just two years ago. However, the 19-year-old must now be mulling over his next steps after being recalled by Newcastle following a failed loan spell with Shrewsbury Town.

Bondswell made the temporary switch to Shropshire on January deadline day, with the Shrews looking to replace Nathanael Ogbeta who signed for Swansea City on the same day. The left-back was included in 11 consecutive matchday squads, but was not handed a single minute of action by Steve Cotterill.

TalkSPORT host Alan Brazil gives revised view on where Newcastle United can finish next season

Former Scotland and Ipswich star Alan Brazil has hailed the job of Eddie Howe after admitting he thought that Newcastle United were destined for a return to the Championship this season. The talkSPORT pundit says that one-time England managerial candidate Howe has done a sensational job after hauling Newcastle from the relegation zone to safety.

Brazil does not see Newcastle getting sucked into the scrap at the bottom again, regardless what happens this weekend at Tottenham Hotspur, and says that United have escaped the “nightmare scenario” after the new owners walked into a club on its knees back in October.

Brazil will join former Arsenal and Middlesbrough star Ray Parlor on Tyneside in June at the Tyne Theater and Opera House as TalkSPORT hits the road over the summer months. For Brazil, it is a trip he is looking forward to and he knows he will be heading to a city re-energized by the takeover.

The teenage Newcastle United midfielder who could save Magpies millions

Newcastle United youngster Lucas De Bolle was a surprise inclusion in Eddie Howe’s squad for the home game with Aston Villa last month. Taking his place di lui alongside established seniors such as Jacob Murphy and Miguel Almiron, some assumed that the 19-year-old’s presence was mainly down to knocks and niggles in the squad.

But De Bolle has done more than just hang around, he’s since made a further three appearances on the bench and has impressed Eddie Howe in training. This week De Bolle was back in action for the Under-23s but there were no signs that playing for the second string was beneath him. Instead, the Edinburgh-born midfielder slotted into Elliott Dickman’s midfield and calmly patrolled proceedings in a 4-3 win over West Bromwich Albion.

De Bolle joined the club at the age of 13 after his family relocated from Scotland and signed a professional deal last summer. He is a former season ticket holder and is now living a dream.

Callum Wilson gives injury update and reveals Newcastle United aim before end of season

Callum Wilson believes he can score goals for Newcastle United before the end of the season. The Magpies’ number nine remains the club’s top goalscorer with six – despite not featuring since the 1-1 draw with Man Utd on December 27.

A torn calf led many to fear the worst, with Eddie Howe confirming in February that Wilson is sidelined until ‘the last few games’ of the campaign. The 30-year-old has been prolific since a £ 20million from Bournemouth but has also spent significant time on the treatment table, making just 41 top-flight appearances out of a possible 67.

Wilson revealed he has started jogging again following his injury and now aims to score goals for Newcastle before the summer break. Speaking on the Footballer’s Football podcast, he said: “It was a nice trip away [to Newcastle’s warm weather training camp in Dubai]. Me and the boys had a good week out there training hard and team bonding. All in all, it was a good, positive trip. Now it’s back to work in sunny Newcastle. “
