A NEW boxing club will soon be packing a punch when it opens its doors in Redditch thanks to a dedicated former boxer.
Redditch Amateur Boxing Club, which was established in 1981 has recently been reformed by Carl Walton, who was coached by the late Sammy Ferris.
Carl said: “It’s been great to get the club reformed and to see old and new faces down at the gym.
“Back when I boxed here we were a really tight team, so I’m hoping we can get that same energy with the new lads and bring in some medals.”
Carl has also brought in a new coach, Grant Turner.
Carl added: “Grant has a great knowledge and enthusiasm for boxing and will be an asset to the team.
“We are ramping up ready for the new season at the moment.
“We’ll be heading to Middlesbrough at the end of September where we’ve got Rian Turner in his first bout of the season.
“And Jacob Turner on the same bill with his first contest in nearly 12 months after being out with a knee injury.”
The club is now affiliated with England Boxing, with Carl hoping to send young boxers to represent England.
Carl previously coached England boxer in Maddie Adkins and Bodyshot Boxing.
He is hoping to find similar success at the newly reformed club.
“I want Redditch Amateur Boxing Club to be at the heart of the community bringing fitness and sport to the local area.
“We’ve got exciting times ahead for Redditch’s original boxing club.
“Anyone wishing to join us get yourselves down to the Matchborough Center or email me on [email protected]”
