NBA Player Confronted Fan Over ‘Your Mom Is Trash’ Comment: Report

Portland Trail Blazers star Jusuf Nurkić reportedly confronted a fan at an NBA game over an alleged trash-talking remark about the player’s mother.

In a tweet on Tuesday, Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports reported that the fan attending a game between the Trail Blazers and the Indiana Pacers at Indianapolis’ Gainbridge Fieldhouse allegedly told Nurkić “your mom is trash” and that the star’s “grandma’s ab ** tch.”

Haynes was citing anonymous NBA sources in his report, which have yet to be confirmed by the league.

The report by Haynes comes shortly after the NBA announced that it was fining Nurkic for the altercation with the fan.

“Portland Trail Blazers center Jusuf Nurkić has been fined $ 40,000 for confronting a fan courtside and grabbing the fan’s cell phone and throwing it into the spectator stands, it was announced today by Byron Spruell, President, League Operations,” the NBA said in a press release on Tuesday.

Earlier this week, Nurkić was seen on videos shared on social media interacting with the fan at courtside before the start of Sunday’s game.

In the footage, Nurkić is seen walking up to the fan who was videotaping the court. Nurkic then walks up to the fan and grabs the phone out of the latter’s hand. The Trail Blazers star center throws the phone into the stands.

It is not the first time an NBA player has engaged with a fan at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. In November, Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James was seen notifying NBA officials to two fans seated courtside at a game. The two fans were eventually escorted out of their seats. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the spectators were ejected for violating the league’s code of conduct.

After the game, James held back from explaining specific details of what the fans said to him.

“There’s a difference between cheering on your home faithful, booing opponents, not wanting your opponents to be successful, and there’s then moments where it goes outside the line with obscene gestures and words,” he said during a post-game interview. “That shouldn’t be tolerated in our game from nobody.”

Earlier this month, Brooklyn Nets star forward Kevin Durant faced a similar fine for using “obscene language” towards a fan during a game between the Nets and the Dallas Mavericks.

“The incident took place with 9.4 seconds remaining in the second quarter of the Nets’ 113-111 loss to the Dallas Mavericks on March 16 at Barclays Center [in Brooklyn, New York]”the NBA said in a statement, announcing that Durant was fined $ 25,000.

Videos posted on social media showed a fan telling Durant, “you got to take this game over,” to which he responded by saying, “You got to shut the f *** up and sit down.”

Newsweek reached out to the NBA for comment but did not receive a response in time for publication.
