MTSU Athletics Announces Modernization of Blue Raider Athletic Association

A new era begins for the Blue Raider Athletic Association that includes multiple ways to support Blue Raider student-athletes. Donors will find expanded opportunities to become a member and receive benefits as part of a modernized structure for the BRAA, it was announced Wednesday by MTSU Athletics.

As part of this announcement, the BRAA will also introduce a new mission statement that succinctly summarizes the purpose of the organization: Building Relationships. Investing in Excellence. Developing Champions.

“College athletics is rapidly evolving, and we are working hard to evolve with it,” said Director of Athletics Chris Massaro. “The modernization of the Blue Raider Athletic Association and its new mission statement will help us elevate our fundraising efforts in this new landscape.”

The comprehensive support of MTSU Athletics donors through the modernized structure of the BRAA will be rewarded through broadened membership opportunities, priority points and benefits.

Since the organization was first formed in 1987, donors have helped provide critical resources to the athletics department to impact the success of student-athletes in the classroom and in competition. The expanded scope of the organization will reward loyal dedication towards the department while also allowing donors multiple opportunities to increase their support.

“Since arriving in February, the new BRAA staff and I have met with several current donors, alumni, and BRAA Board Members to gather their feedback,” said Associate Athletics Director for Development Hans Malebranche. “Based on those conversations, we felt the need to expand the scope of our organization and showcase the different ways individuals can support MTSU Athletics and impact our student-athletes through the BRAA.”

Instead of focusing primarily on annual membership contributions, donors now have eight different ways in which they can support MTSU Athletics through Annual Giving and Legacy Giving, including the newly named Champions Annual Fund (formerly BRAA Annual Membership).

All individuals that donate to any area of the Blue Raider Athletic Association at the $ 100 level or higher are considered members of the BRAA; previously, only donations to the Champions Annual Fund counted towards BRAA membership. Members will also receive priority points for any gift to the Blue Raider Athletic Association. All former student-athletes, managers and trainers can also receive the same benefits for their membership into the Varsity Club, now a form of annual giving within the BRAA.

The five areas of annual giving within the modernized BRAA structure can receive annual giving benefits, revamped for the 2022-23 benefits year.

BLUE RAIDER ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION GIVING BENEFITS

A lasting impact can be felt for generations to come with participation in the BRAA’s Legacy Giving designations, including philanthropic donations to capital campaigns, endowments and planned gifts.

Among the most notable areas of Legacy Giving at MTSU currently is the Build Blue Campaign, that includes over $ 100 million in transformational changes to the facilities landscape. The project impacts all 17 sports sponsored by the Blue Raiders.

The refocused structure of the BRAA comes on the heels of a banner year for MTSU Athletics with the hopes of capitalizing on the overall momentum of the athletics department. The football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball programs combined to post an 8-2 record in the postseason; additionally, the Men’s Cross Country and Women’s Cross Country programs each won Conference USA titles. It was also a record-setting season for the men’s tennis program – including a top 20 ranking for the program during the regular season.

Supporters will receive complete information on the modernization of the BRAA during the upcoming renewal process and membership drive, beginning in early May. Individuals can also make a gift NOW for the upcoming 2022-23 benefits year and immediately impact the experience of Blue Raider student-athletes!

Earlier this month, the new Raider Rep program was announced, giving donors a direct line of communication to an individual on the BRAA staff for the handling of all needs and inquiries. Donors are encouraged to call their personal Raider Rep if they have questions about the modernization of the BRAA, membership benefits, season tickets, parking, priority points or anything that relates to their overall experience within MTSU Athletics. Individuals wishing to renew their support of the BRAA may also contact their Raider Rep for more information.

Individuals wishing to become a new member can contact the BRAA offices now for additional information at (615) 898-2210 or BRAA@mtsu.edu.
