MLB insiders pump up Mets pitcher as NL MVP, Cy Young candidate

A potential favorite is emerging.

Will New York Mets pitcher Edwin Diaz take home some awards this year?

A couple of MLB insiders think he could.

The New York Post’s Jon Heyman tweeted:

Edwin Diaz should be on everyone’s MVP ballot. Maybe not 1st, but somewhere on it. #narco

The Post’s Mike Puma also tweeted:

It takes a special year by a reliever for me to consider him as Cy Young material. Edwin Diaz is having a special year.

A special year indeed. The righty reliever is posting a 1.44 ERA with a whopping 24 saves in 43 2/3 innings. He is tied for the fourth-most saves in MLB with Atlanta Braves reliever Kenley Jansen. His most recent save was recorded Thursday night after Diaz got six outs for the Mets for the first time this season.

The two-time All-Star made his MLB debut in 2016 with the Seattle Mariners and was traded to the Mets following the 2018 season.
