Men’s Tennis Travels to Dallas for Three-Match Weekend

PHILADELPHIA – Temple men’s tennis (9-5) is set to travel to Dallas, Tx. for an action-packed weekend, facing three American Athletic Conference opponents from Apr. 1-3. The Owls will open play on Friday against No. 31 SMU (12-6) for a 1 pm ET start time. Just over 24 hours later, Temple will return to action against No. 37 Memphis (10-4), followed by a Sunday morning matchup against Wichita State (11-8) to close out the trip.

The Owls

  • The Owls enter the match with a 9-5 record, most recently downing Morgan State, 4-0 in a dominant fashion. Temple has gone unbeaten at home, posting a 6-0 home mark, while going 3-5 on the road.
  • Sophomore Marin Delmas has claimed the No. 1 singles spot for the Cherry and White, posting a 7-2 dual record in 2022. Aside from Delmas, both Thibault Frumholz and Gregoire Barety have shown individual success this year as well, leading the team with eight singles wins each. Frumholz has posted an 8-4 mark from the four, five and six positions while Barety is 8-5, picking up majority of his wins from the No. 3 spot.
  • Delmas’ performance goes far beyond his individual play, as he and partner Louis Gorregues have headlined doubles play for the Owls, securing a 5-3 record from the No. 1 and No. 2 positions.

Scouting No. 31 SMU

  • SMU enters the match with a 12-6 record to sit at No. 31 in the ITA National Rankings. The Mustangs have posted wins over five top ranked teams including No. 18 Texas A&M, No. 35 San Diego, No. 60 USTA, No. 65 South Florida, and No. 57 UCF.
  • Aside from the team ranking, the pair of Adam Neff and Ivan Thamma were ranked No. 76 in the Mar. 23 doubles poll. The pair has posted a 15-9 record, which includes a 7-6 dual mark from the No. 1 position and an 8-3 tournament mark.
  • Liam Krall leads the way in singles play, posting a 20-7 mark on the year, which includes a 12-3 dual performance from a combination of positions and an 8-4 tournament mark.

Scouting No. 37 Memphis

  • Memphis enters the weekend with a 10-4 record, most recently dropping to Oklahoma State on Mar. 19, 4-2. The Tigers will kick off the weekend in Dallas with a Friday afternoon matchup against Wichita State, before facing Temple on Saturday and SMU on Monday.
  • One of the Tigers most notable wins came over conference opponent, Tulane, who was ranked No. 57 in the ITA National Rankings at the time. Memphis edged the Green Wave, 4-3.
  • Memphis is led by Pablo Alemany Malea in singles play, who has gone 12-0, picking up 11 wins from the No. 5 spot and one from the No. 4 position.
  • Oscar Cutting has claimed the No. 1 position for the Tigers, where he has posted a 4-9 mark.
  • In doubles play, the duo of Jeremy Taylor and David Stevenson have showed their dominance from the No. 1 position, posting a 9-3 mark to lead the team and rank 18th in the ITA Poll.

Scouting Wichita State

  • The Shockers enter the weekend with an 11-8 overall record, which includes a perfect 7-0 home performance. Wichita State will open the weekend on Friday with a matchup against Memphis, followed by SMU on Saturday and Temple on Sunday.
  • One of the Shockers most notable wins came on Mar. 11 as they downed No. 62 Tulane, 4-3 for their first win over a ranked opponent in 2022.
  • The Shockers are led by Kristof Minarik and Luka Mrsic in singles dual play, each posting an 11-5 record from a range of different position.
  • Minarik and partner Alex Richards lead the team in doubles, posting a 10-3 dual record which includes a 5-2 mark from the No. 1 position.
