VESTAL, NY – For the fourth time this season, the Binghamton men’s swimming & diving team has swept the America East’s weekly honors. Junior Liam Murphy has been named the conference’s Swimmer of the Week while senior Ryan Cohn has been chosen as the top diver for the fifth time this season.
Murphy won three individual events at the Rhode Island Invitational this past weekend and swam on two first-place relays in leading the Bearcats to the team title. He set a pair of pool records in the process. Murphy swept the 200 free (1:38.55), the 500 free (4:28, 12 -pool record) and the 1,650 free (15:40.82 -pool record). The two winning relays he swam on were the 400 free and 800 free.
This marks the second time in his career that Murphy has been named the America East Swimmer of the Week. He was previously selected on Nov. 23, 2021.
Cohn, meanwhile, continued his dominant season by sweeping both diving events at the Rhode Island Invitational. He won the one-meter diving (293.70) and three-meter diving (304.70 – pool record) events. For the season, Cohn has 10 victories and one second-place finish in six meets.
For his career, Cohn has now been named the America East Diver of the Week nine times. This is the most weekly honors by a Binghamton swimmer or diver since the program joined the conference back in 2001.
Binghamton closes out its fall semester with a meeting at UMass on Dec. 3. Also competing at that meet will be Vermont’s women’s team.
