Many clubs left shocked by one Chelsea signing

Reports suggest that a lot of clubs have been stunned by Chelsea’s deal to sign Carney Chukwuemeka this summer.

According to The Athletic, the price tag paid for the 18-year-old has surprised a lot of people in football, with the youngster having just two Premier League starts under his belt.

The signing of the former Aston Villa man was kept under wraps by both clubs, with the negotiations evading the usual transfer sources.

Despite little top flight experience, Chukwuemeka proved his ability in the recent England U19 European Championship campaign, where he was the player of the tournament as his country secured the trophy.

His immense ability and obvious potential have seen many of Europe’s elite clubs interested in a deal. However, The Athletic have claimed there was an element of surprise among those clubs that Chelsea blew them out of the water with their bid of £20m all in.

Chelsea surprised clubs by signing Chukwuemeka

Chelsea fans will be hardly bothered by the price tag paid for the young star, with them more bothered with how Todd Boehly would deal with his first window in charge of the club.

With the big name signings seemingly not yet done this summer, supporters will be equally as impressed with the American’s willingness to invest in the club’s future.

This has been backed up with the further addition of young MLS goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina, who is set for a loan back to Chicago Fire until January.

Chukwuemeka on the other hand is set to be integrated straight into the Blues first team, with Thomas Tuchel reportedly believing he can be of use to him as early as this season.

With the Blues looking to compete on all four fronts this season, squad depth will be essential when fixtures begin to mount up, and the 18-year-old will be given opportunities to prove himself.
