Manchester United are considering making a fresh summer move for Tottenham striker Harry Kane.

And that could mean a potential link up with Kane and former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino at Old Trafford.

United are watching developments closely as rivals Manchester City ‘s number one transfer priority is Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland.

City tried to sign Kane last summer but Tottenham held firm and refused to sell and now Spurs face a fresh dilemma over the England captain.

Kane, who will turn 29 in July, will have two years left on his contract this summer and Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy will either want to tie his prize asset to a new deal – or risk him running down his deal which would mean his transfer value drops.

Tottenham will hope that Antonio Conte’s presence at White Hart Lane could still get them into the top four and also help persuade Kane to stay as the Spurs striker has insisted publicly how much he enjoys working with the Italian manager.

Kane’s relationship with the Spurs fans also remains strong despite last summer’s transfer saga. Conte has said he has three months left to convince Kane to stay at Tottenham.

However, United need a star center forward as Cristiano Ronaldo is 37 and Edinson Cavani has become a bit-part player and they face losing out on Haaland to either City or Real Madrid this summer.

That has reignited interest in Kane who has made it plain he wants to win trophies which was the driving force behind him wanting to join City last summer.

Kane has recaptured his best form under Conte in recent weeks but Tottenham’s last chance of silverware has gone and he now faces a huge decision over his future again.

The chance to potentially link up with Pochettino may also appeal as the former Spurs boss is on United’s hit list to become their next manager and they may not have to pay any compensation after Paris Saint-Germain crashed out of the Champions League.

But United would not be a guarantee of success and they are desperately battling to get into the top four this season. United were one of the interested parties last summer but instead signed Ronaldo.

They also know it could take more than £ 100m to lane Kane while there have also been links with Bayern Munich superstar Robert Lewandowski.

United are currently preparing for Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid with interim boss Ralf Rangnick hopeful Ronaldo will be sharp enough to fire them into the quarter-finals.

Ronaldo scored a brilliant hat-trick at Old Trafford on Saturday, to seal an stunning 3-2 win over Spurs, and is ready to lead the line against Atletico just 72 hours later.

And Rangnick claimed he is not concerned about the 37-year-old Portugal star being fatigued for a such big game.

“I’m not worried he has not been able to recover,” Rangnick said. “So far, he’s always been a person that looks quite a lot after himself, his body di lui, and he knows exactly what to do.

“So I’m not worried about that. If he can score another three goals, we’ll see. His overall performance was good and hopefully we get this from him.

“There was a lot of discussion before the Tottenham game about Cristiano and he showed what kind of professional and player he is, what kind of level he can still play at.”
