Live Cricket Score – India vs Sri Lanka, 1st Test, Day 3 |

Jadeja was the hero for India on the second day

Jadeja finishes with 9 as Ashwin gets the final wicket. The final wicket falls with Lahiru Kumara hitting Ashwin to long off. It denies Jadeja off a chance to become the first cricketer to get 150 and 10 wickets in the same Test. However, the victory margin is India’s fifth best of all time, and Sri Lanka’s third biggest defeat. It sums up a collective display of sheer dominance by India. They deservingly go 1-0 up ahead of the D / N Test in Bengaluru.

WICKET: Shami gets the 9th

Shami is getting them to nip in and out, one of the incoming ones beats Vishwa Fernando and traps him plumb in front. Even the review doesn’t save him.

WICKET: Another for Jadeja

Fourth in the innings for Jadeja. He goes round the wicket to the left hander, Embuldeniya and gets a thick outside edge. Pant takes a very sharp chance as Sri Lanka lose their eighth.

WICKET: Jadeja bags Mathews

The slide doesn’t stop. Mathews is squared up by a big turner from Jadeja and is caught plumb in front. He reviews in vain, and Sri Lanka staring down the barrel now.

And he gets Lakmal in the same over, who tried to hit him out of the ground once again. He tried doing that earlier today and was caught at mid off. This time he’s caught at mid on. Dismal from Sri Lanka.

He goes past the great Kapil Dev, and fittingly it’s with another left-hander’s wicket. Asalanka looks to drive Ashwin but gets a thick edge which is snaffled at slip. Sri Lanka lose their fifth as Ashwin becomes India’s second highest wicket taker in Tests.

TEA: Sri Lanka 120/4, trail by 280 runs

WICKET: Jadeja strikes again

A 49-run stand has been broken. Jadeja has Dhananjaya chipping softly to short cover and picks up his sixth wicket of the match. Sri Lanka lose their fourth, trailing by 306.

Some resistance from SL

Angelo Mathes and Dhananjaya de Silva have survived some close shaves and an energetic Bumrah spell to build a feisty little stand so far. A much-needed one after the freefall.

WICKET: Shami gets the big fish

Dimuth Karunaratne falls after getting to 27. He’s done in by the slight nip away after pitching with Shami angling it in from round the wicket. The low edge is pouched safely by Pant, and Sri Lanka’s slide continues.

WICKET: Ashwin gets Nissanka

Another one bites the dust. Nissanka pushes out against a flighted one, it doesn’t turn in. And the thin edge is pouched by Pant. India get it in their favor on review.

LUNCH: Sri Lanka 10/1, trail by 390 runs

WICKET: Ashwin strikes

He’s struck with the new ball, getting Thirimanne to poke out and get a thick outside edge. Rohit Sharma pouches a sharp low catch at gully as Sri Lanka continue to slip.

Innings break: Sri Lanka all out for 174; Jadeja bags five

That innings has wrapped up rather rapidly. Jadeja has Vishwa Fernando caught at slip, and Lahiru Kumara bowled off successive balls to finish with 5-41. India bag a 400-run lead and enforce the follow on.

WICKET: Shami gets into the act

Shami has got a wicket with a bouncer on this pitch! He’s been sharp and the bouncer is aimed at Embuldeniya’s throat. He fends at it awkwardly and spoons a catch to short leg.

WICKETS: Jadeja strikes twice

Niroshan Dickwella tries a hard sweep but holes out to the man at square leg. Suranga Lakmal tries to hit him off the ground in his second ball and spoons a catch to mid off. Sri Lanka crumbling.

WICKET: Bumrah brings out his magic

The slower off cutter from round the wicket from Bumrah. And he beats Asalanka on the outside edge to strike him on the back pad. India get it in their favor on the review. End of a 58-run stand.

Fifty partnership up as well

Asalanka and Ashwin are playing a game of cat and mouse, he’s swept him successfully but has also been beaten in the air on occasions. For now, Asalanka has supported Nissanka very well as the fifty run partnership comes up.

Fifty for Nissanka

There have been some nervy moments on the way but Nissanka has gutsed his way through to a neat half century

Nissanka is dropped …

R Ashwin creates a neat opportunity, having beaten Nissanka in the flight. The attempted loft is dragged towards the onside by Nissanka and Shreyas Iyer who is placed halfway from the boundary cannot hang on to a steepler.

The lead up …

India have outclassed Sri Lanka in the contest so far, with both bat and ball. They’ve threatened with both spin and pace alike on a Mohali pitch that has started to take a lot of turn already. Sri Lanka are staring at a huge deficit already and will need a big effort if they are to get close to India’s total. And as we wait for the third day’s play, here’s something on Kohli’s lasting legacy to keep you company.
