Can CSK finish off a forgettable season with a pair of wins? © BCCI / IPL
Another comprehensive win from GT that takes them up to 20 points. They’re assured of a top-spot finish in the league stages with that seven-wicket win over CSK. GT started really strong with the ball after being asked to bowl, restricting CSK to just 133. To put things in perspective, CSK scored just 24 runs in the last 5 overs with no boundaries in that period.
Saha came out all guns blazing in the powerplay and gave GT a strong start. They were ahead in the game from the onset and despite the wickets CSK managed to pick out, there just too little to defend in the end. Pathirana on debut picked up two wickets – one in his first over and the other on the first ball of his second over. Saha though held his nerve, kept his cool, unbeaten on 67 off 57 to guide his side over the line with 5 balls to spare. That’s all we have from the first of the double-header Sunday. Do tune in for RR vs LSG in just a bit.
50 for Saha – an invaluable knock from him
100 up for GT! But Hardik Pandya is gone!Pathirana with his second wicket – he’s been quite a joy to watch. It was the slower delivery and it took a leading edge that’s been caught. He strikes with the first ball of his second over.
Moeen strikes!Wade holes out straight to long on! He can’t believe it, but he has to depart.
OUT! Pathirana gets his maiden IPL wicket!Shubman Gill is trapped leg-before and the 59-run opening stand s broken. Gill reviews it, but to no avail – three reds and he has to go for 18 off 17. The Under-19 star from SL gets his maiden wicket on debut.
GT end the powerplay on 53/0
DROPPED!Easy, straightforward catch, but Ruturaj at point spills one that should’ve been taken.
Gujarat make a strong start in paltry chase
CSK have been restricted to 133/5 in their 20 overs. They lost an early wicket but Moeen and Ruturaj revived them taking them to 47/1. However, the middle session and timely wickets for GT kept them in check. Ruturaj resisted and reached his second fifty of the season, but he fell soon after for 53. Thereafter Dube fell for a duck and Dhoni couldn’t do much. Just 24 runs came from the last 5 overs without a single boundary as CSK finished with a below-par total. It should be an easy chase for the table toppers. Join us in a bit.
AND ANOTHER!Dube falls for a duck, caught behind off a short ball, in the attempt to pull it.
OUT !!Ruturaj drags one across the line off Rashid, but picks the man at deep mid wicket. He falls for 53 off 49.
50 for Ruturaj!Good innings, but CSK have fallen behind in the last five overs.
At the halfway stage, CSK have 73/2 in 10 overs on the board
OUT!Kishore strikes and breaks the 57-run stand. Moeen pulled but found Rashid in the deep.
50-run stand up between Moeen and Gaikwad
CSk have made a good recovery and have ended the PP at 47/1. They’ve taken 32 off the last couple of overs.
OUT!Shami gets the outside edge and Conway falls. Conway is looking for an on-drive but the ball straightens a tad bit. Straightforward catch for Saha.

Prelude: CSK vs GT
One team is through to the Playoffs and the other is eliminated. And at the start of the season if you had to match these two teams to their current status, you’d probably have mapped them the other way around. But that’s how the cookie crumbles in this league. CSK will not play in the IPL playoffs for only the second time, but like the 2020 season, they can sign off with a pair of wins and build towards the next season already.
Gujarat are through but still need to lock in a top-two berth, which will give them two cracks at making the final. Still things to play for in this afternoon fixture at the ‘Khede!
