1.30pm Haydock – Old Bootleians Nursery (5f)
Rogue Spirit hasn’t quite seen out 6f in his past two starts and this return to the minimum trip could bode well for the juvenile who was third in the Super Sprint Stakes at Newbury.
QUEEN OF THE UPLANDS has been learning her trade this summer and a drop to this distance paid off at Lingfield late last month as she kicked for home off the final bend and just repelled the latecomers. Tom Dascombe’s filly has scope for better.
Selection: Queen Of Uplands @ 6/1 with Paddy Power
1.50pm Newmarket – Al Basti Equiworld, Rosemary Stakes (Fillies’ & Mares’ Listed, 1m)
Frankel filly CRYSTAL CAPRICE completed a hat-trick of wins when finishing strongly in a handicap at Ascot over this trip at the beginning of the month for Sir Michael Stoute and Ryan Moore. On the strength of that showing, she should be capable of making her mark in this grade.
Whitebeam is also seeking a fourth successive win and Roger Charlton’s filly rates as the danger. She beat Thunder Legend – a winner next time out – when successful over 7f last time out at Haydock.
Selection: Crystal Force @ 2/1 with Paddy Power
2.05pm Haydock – JW Lees MPA Handicap (1m)
Croupier got back on the winning trail at Windsor three weeks ago and represents a Simon and Ed Crisford team in flying form, so another big showing is likely.
However, SUCELLUS has Haydock form figures of 311193 and was a course-and-distance winner in June. Just 2lb higher now, could outrun a big price for Oliver Greenall if turning up in a similar mood.
Selection: Sucellus @ 18/1 with Paddy Power
2.25pm Newmarket – Princess Royal Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Stakes (Fillies’ & Mares’ Group 3, 1m 4f)
Sea Silk Road has run well twice in Group 2 contests since winning a Listed race on soft ground at Goodwood in May. Eased in grade, she has a valid claim in a first-time tongue-tie for William Haggas and Tom Marquand.
ETERNAL PEARL is on a roll for Charlie Appleby, however, completing a hat-trick of wins in a novice stakes at Kempton in June, a Listed race over course and distance in July, and a Group 3 contest at Deauville last month. The form of the last race was rock-solid and she was dominant at the finish, winning by two lengths. William Buick’s Frankel filly is the one on the upgrade.
Selection: Eternal Pearl @ 5/2 with Paddy Power
2.40pm Haydock – Haldane Fisher Handicap (1m 6f)
SPEAKER is 0-3 in handicaps, but Ralph Beckett’s three-year-old caught the eye on his first effort at this trip on soft going here in July.
He made up good late ground from an unpromising position to be fourth of 14 in a contest that has thrown up five subsequent winners. A better surface isn’t a worry and sporting first-time blinkers from a 1lb lower mark, he shouldn’t be far away.
Selection: Speycaster @ 4/1 with Paddy Power
3.00pm Newmarket – Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Rockfel Stakes (Fillies’ Group 2, 7f)
John and Thady Gosden clearly think plenty of Commissioning, the Kingman filly who was an impressive debut winner here on the July Course. She has plenty of scope for improvement but a sharp rise into Group 2 company on her second start looks demanding and her price looks short.
EXIMIOUS was second over 6f in a novice contest here last month on debut and sparkled next time over an extra furlong when easily winning a Salisbury novice. With Roger Varian’s team in such good heart, she has to hold each-way claims.
Selection: Excellent @ 14/1 with Paddy Power
3.35pm Newmarket – Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Joel Stakes (Group 2, 1m)
This is a really open feature contest. Potapova delivered on her earlier promise to win a Group 3 race at Sandown over a mile last month and should build on that, but has to prove she can back it up now.
TEMPUSon the other hand, has won three on the trot including Group 3 contests at Salisbury and Deauville, and Archie Watson’s runner is a major player having defied a penalty in France last time.
Selection: Tempus @ 11/4 with Paddy Power
