Franck Kessie transfer latest: Busquets admission, Barcelona move, Arsenal and Tottenham blow

Reported Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur target Franck Kessie is expected to leave AC Milan when his contract runs out at the end of the current campaign.

The Ivory Coast international has garnered considerable interest from a host of Europe’s top clubs, with Barcelona the most heavily linked. Spurs were reportedly in the driving seat back in January, but after failing to wrap-up a deal, reports are now suggesting that the Catalan club is where he will likely be plying his trade next season.

With all that being said, football.london has rounded-up all the latest about his future away from the San Siro.

Busquets admission

Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets has all but confirmed that Kessie will be playing for the Blaugrana next season. Speaking to EsportsRAC, the Spaniard said: “Franck Kessie? Xavi saw him and agreed to sign him, so I’m happy Barca are making signings and players want to get here. He’s a strong player, he’s gonna (sic) help us” .

Barcelona agreement

Barcelona are on the brink of agreeing a deal to sign Kessie on a free transfer, according to Sport (February 27). The La Liga club began negotiations with his representatives for him months ago but have intensified their pursuit in recent days.

Arsenal offer made

According to Sport, via the Daily Cannon, Arsenal have made an offer to Kessie to sign him at the end of the season. Arsenal have been linked with Kessie for some time and it remains to be seen whether they will actually try to land him or if they are just testing the waters with the offer before targeting other signings.

Contract decision made

Sport also report that Kessie has notified AC Milan that he will not be signing a new deal, bringing an end to his five-year stay at the club. He will now look for pastures new as he heads into the next phase of his career.

Tottenham leading race

As reported by Fabio Gatto in January, Tottenham offered Kessie a four-year contract in north London. The Ivorian, who is valued at £ 43.2million on Transfermarkt, is said to be admired by Conte and could be an ideal addition to the current batch of Tottenham midfielders.

Kessie turns down contract offer

Back in November of 2021, it was reported by Gianluca Di Marzio that Kessie had turned down a lucrative new contract offer from AC Milan, said to be worth € 6.5m (£ 5.4m) per year, with the midfielder holding out for € 9m (£ 7.5m) on an annual basis.

This is despite Kessie committing his future to Milan over the summer, when speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport: “I’m proud to have chosen Milan and it is not my intention to leave. On the contrary, I want to stay forever.

“It’s all about the [Olympic] Games now, but when I return to Milan I will fix everything. I only want Milan, [Paolo] Maldini and [Fredeeric] Massara know my thoughts. I like it so much when the ultras sing ‘a President, there is only a President …’. Well, I want to be one for life. At least in football. “
