Although the 2023 English Cricket season might seem like some time awaya number of our regional clubs are already preparing ahead of the upcoming campaign.
T-Rippon Mid Essex League outfit, Eastwood, are no exception. The Belfairs Park club have welcomed sizable numbers to their winter net session, staged at Southend High School for Boys, with several new players joining the ranks.
The club currently fields three teams in the T-Rippon League as well as a Medlock Southend Evening League and an Over 50s XI.
Founded in 1980, Eastwood are continuing their search for enthusiastic cricketers of various standards intending to form and field a fourth team.
Speaking to Yellow Sport, Eastwood CC Committee Member, James Drabble said: “It’s fantastic to see so many new faces at nets. Everyone has interacted well and has swiftly developed a camaraderie. There is a real prospect of fielding a fourth team on Saturday afternoons with the numbers continuing to grow.
“As much as we all want to win, it is hugely important that everyone enjoys playing and being a part of the cricket club. We stage regular functions and do our utmost to ensure everyone feels welcome.”
Drabble added: “If anyone out there is looking to get into or back into cricket, any standard, perhaps even discover a fresh cricketing environment, they are welcome to come along to Monday night nets at Southend High School for Boys and see what we have to offer.”
