Early Learning Family Center in Great Falls earns national recognition from Special Olympics

The Early Learning Family Center in Great Falls recently received a national honor for inclusion in education from the Special Olympics, recognizing it as a Unified Champion School.

In order to receive the distinction, schools need to apply and meet extensive criteria in physical education and other school activities broken down into three categories: Whole School Engagement, Inclusive Youth Leadership, and Unified Sports.

Early Learning Family Center (ELF) Administrator Colette Getten said the recognition from Special Olympics was a reflection of the dedication from the entire staff.

“When we initially applied for the opportunity to be recognized, the staff deserved this for all the hard work they’ve put in,” Getten said. “So, it was just fun to recognize that and celebrate that. And it is more than what some other places are doing, and clearly Special Olympics felt the same way.”
