NEW HAVEN — A male driver was seriously injured in a crash that closed local roads Wednesday afternoon, according to police.

The driver became trapped in his Subaru WRX as a result of the crash and needed to be extricated by firefighters, Capt. Rose Dell, public information officer for the New Haven Police Department, said Wednesday night. He suffered serious injuries that may prove life-threatening, Dell said.

New Haven police officers and firefighters responded to the intersection of Blatchley Avenue and Peck Street at 2:07 pm Wednesday after a resident reported a crash involving a Dodge Ram and a Subaru WRX, according to Dell. Based on a photo shared by police on Facebook Wednesday evening, the crash inflicted severe damage on both the sports car and the pickup truck. Several sections of the Subaru were crushed, including the driver’s side.
