Driver found dead in crashed car riddled with bullet holes in Indio

Indio police are investigating the scene where a man died after crashing a vehicle into a wall in Indio late Thursday night. Police said the vehicle was riddled with what appeared to be bullet holes.

Officers responded to a report of a crash off Calhoun Street just south of Dr. Carreon Boulevard in east Indio around midnight, Officer Ben Guitron said.

Upon arrival, officers found the driver dead inside the vehicle, which had run into a 6-foot wall outside a home on Calhoun Street. Officers inspecting the vehicle then found what Guitron said “appeared to be several bullet holes in it.” Guitron said they have not determined when the bullet holes were made.

Calhoun Street between Dr. Carreon Boulevard and Quail Street were expected to remain closed for several hours while officers continued their investigation, Guitron said. However, he said it appeared that no other people appeared to have been involved and the wall and vehicle were the only property damaged.
