Driver, 42, Dies following Single-Vehicle Collision off Bronx River Parkway

A 42-year-old man has died following a road accident in the vicinity of the Bronx River Parkway, police said.

According to the NYPD, on Saturday, Jan. 21, at around 9.06 pm, police responded to a 911 call regarding a single vehicle collision in the vicinity of Boston Road and Bronx River Parkway, located in the 49th Precinct.

“A preliminary investigation determined that a 42-year-old male was operating a 2010 Mazda 3 northbound on the Bronx River Parkway in the right lane when he lost control of his vehicle for unknown reasons,” an NYPD spokesperson said. “The vehicle veered right off the roadway into a grassy area.”

The spokesperson continued, “The vehicle struck a fence and came to a final rest after striking a tree. EMS responded and transported the aided operator to NYC Health and Hospitals/Jacobi where he was pronounced deceased. There are no other vehicles involved and no other injuries have been reported as a result of this collision.”

The investigation remains ongoing by the NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation Squad, and the identification of the deceased is pending family notification, police said.

For collision investigations, the NYPD handles the criminal aspects of the investigation, while the NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) reviews the street design at the locations of such incidents.
