Barrow Raiders head coach Paul Crarey previews the Wigan friendly

BARROW Raiders head coach Paul Crarey said his side faces a big test against what promises to be a strong Wigan Warriors lineup this Sunday.

As Raiders approach the third and final pre-season friendly against the Super League giants, Crarey said: “Wigan took an academy side to Whitehaven but I think they’re bringing a more experienced side here, so it’ll be a big test for us.

“They’re the future stars of the game, they’ve got the best kids in the country.

“We’re looking forward to it, and hopefully we’ve improved over the last two games, to put a good performance in against them.

“It’ll be a great marker of where we are as a team.”

On how his own team could shape up on Sunday, Crarey said: “We’ve picked up a couple of niggles, Shane Toal has a groin strain.

“Brett Carter has a hamstring – we were a bit reluctant to play him last week, but he said he wanted to play.

“Now he’s pulled his hamstring so we’re a bit disappointed in that.

“But Jarrod Sammut’s well on his way coming back after a calf strain, so we’re unsure about him at the moment.

“He’s 35, but he’s in great shape.

“I’ve got to wrap him in cotton wool, because any pivot that scores 19 tries in a season, particularly at that age, is phenomenal

“I don’t think any other pivot at any other club got near him.

“On Sunday, though, anybody that isn’t 100 percent won’t play.”
