Mikel Arteta reviews Arsenal’s performance against Watford

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal could yet face a nightmare scenario where they finish in the Premier League’s top four this season – but don’t qualify for the Champions League.

The Gunners have found themselves well-placed to land a top-four finish following their 3-2 win over Watford last weekend as rivals Manchester United fell to a crushing 4-1 defeat to Man City.

Arsenal’s win over Watford came largely thanks to Bukayo Saka, who scored one and set-up another as the Gunners came away from Vicarage Road with three valuable points.

Saka’s teammate Thomas Partey has now sent the winger a message amid recent reports linking him with a move away from the club.

And Gabriel has directly responded to Mikel Arteta getting angry at him and two teammates during Sunday’s game.

Martin Odegaard gave the visitors an early lead before Cucho Hernandez equalized for Watford with an overhead-kick.

Saka then put Arsenal back in the lead as he fired home after a well-worked one-two with Alexandre Lacazette before Gabriel Martinelli curled the ball in for 3-1.

Moussa Sissoko pulled one back in the 87th minute to set up a nervy finish but Arsenal held on to claim the tthree points.

But after Bukayo Saka put the Gunners 2-1 up, the Spaniard could be seen shouting at Gabriel, Martin Odegaard and Granit Xhaka – and the Brazilian defender has now held his hands up over the incident.

Nightmare scenario revealed

Arsenal could yet miss out on Champions League football next season even if they finish in the Premier League’s top four.

The nightmare scenario would be heartbreaking for Mikel Arteta’s side, who currently sit in fourth place – one point above Manchester United in fifth but with three games in hand on their rivals.

There is still a slim chance they could finish fourth and not get Champions League football next season – but it all depends on how Manchester United and West Ham fare between now and the end of the season.
