This game features a matchup between the 15-5 Sun Devils and the 12-9 Huskies. Arizona St. has now gone 4-4 in their last 8 games, since starting the season 11-1. Their near-climb into the Top 25 was halted by UCLA and USC last week, although an NCAA Tournament berth is still very possible. Washington needs a miracle to salvage their tournament hopes, and can’t afford to lose any more games.

Game Breakdown

Arizona State went 9-2 in non-conference play, and started out 6-1 in Pac-12 play, climbing to a 15-3 record heading into last week. Unfortunately, they were unable to claim a win in either of their two home games against UCLA and USC. Losing each game by an average of 10 points, the Sun Devils slid from a projected 8-seed to a projected 10-seed, now barely inside the NCAA Tournament field. They rely on G Desmond Cambridge Jr., who has averaged 18.5 ppg in his last 4 games, after averaging 12 ppg on the season.

Washington had a 3-game winning streak snapped over the weekend by Utah, who beat them by 25 points. The Huskies return home to where they hold a 9-4 record for their next 2 games, giving them a chance to bounce back. Unfortunately, those two games come against Arizona and Arizona State, who rank in the top half of the Pac-12 conference. Washington will once again be relying on Keion Brooks, who averages 17.3 ppg, to lead them. Brooks has scored closer to 20 ppg over his last 6 games, and needs to keep that pace.

Arizona State vs Washington Prediction

Washington may have the home-court advantage in this game, but they do not match up well with Arizona State. Their #105 KenPom ranking pales in comparison to the #59 ranking that the Sun Devils have. I don’t expect a blowout, but Arizona State should be able to topple the Huskies here. They just need to avoid carrying any bad habits from last week’s losses into this week to get the road win.
