Aptos boys tennis rolls past Scotts Valley

Aptos High singles players Koosha Safari, Aaron Buchanan and Heath Hegna didn’t lose a game in their straight-sets wins, and the Mariners’ boys tennis team beat host Scotts Valley 6-1 in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League play Tuesday.

Bennett Biscotti knocked off Jeremy Goodrich 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 to give the Mariners a sweep of singles matches.

The Mariners also received doubles wins from John McGowan and Jack Eldredge in the No. 1 match and Andrew Morrissey and Jack Taylor at No. 3.

Scotts Valley’s Devin Taing and Paxton Fleming beat Sean Spencer and Nick Hambright 7-6, 3-6, 10-7 at No. 2 doubles.

At Soquel 7, Santa Cruz 0: No. 1 singles player Jack Van Ness and No. 2 Benjamin Bellito didn’t lose a game in their straight-sets wins Tuesday in SCCAL play.

Santa Cruz (2-3) plays at SLV on Thursday at 4 pm

College baseball

At Monterey Peninsula 6, Cabrillo 1: Kawana Soares had two hits and an RBI, but the Seahawks’ sixth-game win streak came to an end in Coast Conference South Division play Tuesday.

Outfielder Brady Chavez had three of Cabrillo’s eight hits. Ryan Mathiesen tripled and scored a run.

Losing pitcher Ian Koenig gave up seven hits and four runs over five innings.

Willy Bravo threw seven innings in his winning effort for MPC (14-10, 4-3).

Cabrillo (11-13, 6-1) host MPC on Thursday at 2:30 pm

Boys golf

Santa Cruz 217, Scotts Valley 243: Myles Statsky shot even-par 35 for medalist honors on the front nine at Pasatiempo Golf Club on Tuesday. He carded birdies on the third and sixth holes.

Isaiah Ruckman (40), Travis Deane (45) and Cliff Chestnut (47) also scored for the Cardinals (2-1).

Colton Duerson shot 40 to pave the Falcons (1-2).

High school baseball

Soquel 11, at Scotts Valley 8: Gabe Virgalitto had a hit and 3 RBI in the Knights’ SCCAL win Tuesday.

Josh Fahrner had three hits for Soquel, Dylan Willams had two hits and scored three runs, and Jack Fisher and Noah Piona also had two hits.

Winning pitcher Brady Spencer threw 4 2/3 innings. He gave up three hits and no earned runs.

Soquel host Scotts Valley on Friday.

At Alisal 3, Monte Vista Christian 2: Luis Quintero had two hits and an RBI in the Mustangs’ Pacific Coast Athletic League Mission Division loss Tuesday.

Will Mesa had two stolen bases and scored a run for MVC.

Losing pitcher Jojo Keldsen Jr. gave up six hits, five walks and three earned runs over 4 1/3 innings.

MVC (5-3-1, 1-2) hosts Alisal (8-2-1, 5-1) on Thursday.

Aptos 10, Harbor 0: Pitchers Owen Dueck, Chase Aiken and Jorden Espinoza combined efforts for the shutout in SCCAL play Tuesday.

Dueck started and went threw four innings. He gave up four hits, two walks and struck out four batters. Aiken went one inning a gave up on hit and struck out two batters. Espinoza, a sophomore, threw two innings with six strikeouts.

Aptos (6-4, 6-0) had 13 hits. Jack Spinelli was 2 for 2 with a double, sacrifice fly and two RBI, Owen Dueck was 2 for 3 with a run scored, and Sam Chitwood was 2 for 4 with two runs scored.

At Santa Cruz 9, San Lorenzo Valley 0: Nate Lapioli had two of the Cougars’ three hits in their SCCAL loss Tuesday.

The Cougars (1-9, 1-5) host the Cardinals on Friday at 4:30 pm

Boys volleyball

Kirby 3, North Salinas 1: Senior setter Ryan Kolderup had 11 kills, 21 assists and two blocks in the Griffins’ 25-22, 19-25, 25-20, 25-17 win Tuesday.

Sophomore outside hitter Finley Roberts had 12 kills, 21 digs and two aces for the Griffins (3-0 league), who at Rancho San Juan on Tuesday at 5 pm

College softball

San Mateo 13, at Cabrillo 2: Tea Villalta and Ella Giguiere each had a hit and an RBI in the Seahawks’ loss to the state’s No. 3 ranked team Tuesday in Coast Conference play.

The Seahawks (7-20, 2-5) host Allan Hancock (12-7) on Friday at 1 pm
